Talk Nerdy to Me: When Are You Logging on?

This week in “Talk Nerdy to Me” we’re going to look at when you all read SHRIMP. Because SHRIMP is always just a click away, we can find out some interesting things about when students are engaging with the reader. What we’re looking at exactly is when cards get opened.

From the 23rd of November until the 30th, there are a few things that jump out from the chart: firstly, no one read anything between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., and almost no one between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. For some reason, however, the number of new page openings drops off between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., but then consistently climbs till 4 a.m.—some of you are studying pretty late! Secondly, the afternoon and evening shows an interesting trend: students are clearly opening more cards in even numbered hours than in odd numbered ones, after the midday low point at 1 p.m. (who likes studying after lunch? Not me!) Some of this can be explained by when classes get out, but since the trend continues till 1o p.m., it seems like something else might be going on as well.

However, the most obvious thing is exactly what’s expected: students start reading more as the day goes on, and start reading less the later it gets. Clearly, the most popular time is right around midday—in between classes is, as we all know, one of the best times to really get into the readings for the week.
